3D model of a typical Schack® 4-pass canal recuperator. |
These units got their name from originally being installed in a flue gas canal or channel. With these arrangements the hot flue gases flow across the tubes with the preheated medium flowing inside the tubes. Preheats as high as 1500° F have been achieved. The flue gas inlet temperature for this application was 2200° F, with an air preheat of 989° F. Additional surface was built-in to the design to account for the extreme fouling nature of the glass.
